Highway 99 has been reopened for essential travel only, between Pemberton and Lillooet, following the cleanup of a slide along the highway near Duffy Lake.
According to a statement from the transport and infrastructure ministry, there are weight restrictions on the route from northern Pemberton to Lillooet.
Regular passenger vehicles and trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 14,500 kilograms can circulate through the corridor, but commercial vehicles cannot.

“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is monitoring the weather and the performance of the highway. People should know that Highway 99 and others could be closed at any time if conditions change, ”the statement read.
The section of the highway had been closed since Wednesday, December 1.
Five people were killed when a landslide fell down the same route in mid-November.

The ministry reminds drivers that British Columbia’s winter tire regulations are in effect and that this stretch of road is steep and hilly, with narrow sections and sharp turns.
