Highway 40 pileup leaves two motorists injured


The driver of the last car, a 27-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, the Sûreté du Québec said.

Two people were injured Tuesday night, one of them seriously, in a collision on westbound Highway 40, provincial police said.

The accident occurred around 10 pm near Exit 68 at Stinson St., the Sûreté du Québec said Wednesday morning. Five vehicles were involved, including a motorcycle, the SQ said.

As traffic slowed down, an oncoming car that was traveling in the left lane slammed into the vehicle immediately in front of it, triggering the pileup, police said.

The driver of the last car, a 27-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, the SQ said. He was transported to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

A motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries in the collision. Authorities do not fear for his life from him.

Investigators were dispatched to the scene overnight to determine the circumstances of the accident. The section of the highway has reopened completely, police said.
