Toronto Police Insp. Chris Boddy, a high-profile senior officer, was suspended with pay after he was charged with driving under the influence last month in Richmond Hill.
Boddy, 52, was indicted by York Regional Police on Aug. 29 after he was allegedly found to have a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
His arrest and paid suspension were confirmed by Toronto police spokesman Meaghan Gray on Thursday.
The Star also reached out to Boddy for comment, but did not receive a response.
Boddy, a 30-year Toronto police veteran, was in the service’s Welfare unit prior to his arrest.
The officer has a large public presence on social media, including 44,000 followers on Twitter. His social media prowess once allowed him to reunite a lost teddy bear at the airport with his human family.
In 2019, Boddy was the face of the Toronto Police Service’s three-week gun buyback program aimed at taking guns off the streets by offering city residents $ 350 for each gun and $ 200 for each long gun. that they will deliver for destruction.
