Hezbollah targets Israeli military base, 14 soldiers injured

(Beirut) Lebanese Hezbollah said Wednesday that it had targeted a military command post in northern Israel, which deplored 14 soldiers wounded, “in response” to the death of three of its fighters the day before in Israeli strikes.

Early in the evening, a source from the Lebanese Islamist movement told AFP that an Israeli strike had targeted a warehouse in a residential area in Iaat, near Baalbeck, “slightly” injuring a passerby.

The Lebanese National Information Agency (Ani) reported three drone strikes on this region, a Hezbollah stronghold in eastern Lebanon.

The deposit in question contained vegetables and agricultural products, according to an AFP photographer on site.

Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas on October 7, Hezbollah has carried out daily attacks against Israel to support the Palestinian Islamist movement, its ally.

The Israeli army responds by bombarding Lebanese territory more and more deeply and by carrying out targeted attacks against Hezbollah officials.

Israel announced, for the third consecutive day, several injured in Hezbollah attacks.

The exchanges of fire, which have intensified between Israel and the pro-Iranian movement, come in an extremely tense regional context after an unprecedented attack by Iran against Israel, which says it wants to retaliate.

Hezbollah fighters “carried out a complex attack with guided missiles and explosive drones against the command post of a reconnaissance company” of the Israeli army, the pro-Iranian party said in a statement.

The attack took place “in response to the assassination by the enemy of several resistance fighters in Aïn Baal and Chehabiyé”, in southern Lebanon, the day before, he said.

Six soldiers “seriously” injured

The Israeli military said that “a number of anti-tank missiles and drones were identified as they crossed the border from Lebanese territory towards the village of Arab al-Aramche in northern Israel”, making status of 14 soldiers injured, six of them seriously.

The army had indicated that it had bombed the place from which the shots came and a Hezbollah “military complex” in Aïta el-Chaab, in southern Lebanon.

On Tuesday, Israel said its strikes in southern Lebanon killed two local Hezbollah commanders and a third member of the movement.

The Lebanese formation, which said three of its members had been killed, launched salvos of rockets in retaliation.

Shortly before, the Upper Galilee Regional Council, in northern Israel, indicated that three people had been injured in a drone strike carried out from Lebanon.

In addition, the Israeli army announced Monday that four soldiers had been injured in Lebanese territory after Hezbollah claimed to have activated explosive charges as they passed.

More than six months of cross-border violence have left 368 dead on the Lebanese side, mainly Hezbollah fighters, but also some 70 civilians, according to an AFP count.

In northern Israel, ten soldiers and eight civilians were killed according to the army. Tens of thousands of residents had to flee the area on both sides of the border.
