Heat wave gives no respite to the United States

A heat wave that last week devastated much of downtown USA will begin to move east with dangerously high temperatures, the National Weather Service (NWS).

The forecast for this Monday is for another day of temperatures well above normal, near records or even above, from the central plains of the country to the upper mid-west.

“A dangerous heat will continue to make headlines,” said the N.W.S. in a notice.

The high temperatures will begin to move east on Tuesday, through the Great Lakes region, with maximum temperatures close to 35ºC, “between 5 and 12 degrees higher than normal for the season.”

In Chicagothe country’s third-largest city, is forecast to be 37th on Tuesday.

The heat wave will move to the southeast on Wednesday, with up to 43°C on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, coupled with high humidity.

According to meteorologists, the high temperatures are due to a high pressure dome, at the edges of which a virulent climate is unleashed with electrical storms, flash floods and extreme rains.

Yellowstone National Park, the oldest in USAclosed last week due to damage caused by major flooding.

Torrential rains and melting ice overflowed the rivers in just a couple of days. The sprawling park is primarily in Wyoming and is home to Old Faithful Geyser.

Some 90 people had to be rescued by helicopters.

The park announced that it will reopen its southern sector to visitors on Wednesday. Park officials said other sections will remain closed for the rest of the season.

As heat scorched the southwestern part of the country in Arizona, a wildfire blazing its way down a mountainside consumed four buildings at the Kitt Peak National Observatory, but they did not appear to contain telescopes or other scientific equipment, officials said.

Meanwhile, flames have engulfed the Wharton State Forest in the northeastern state of New Jersey, authorities said.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the fire, which started Sunday, had consumed 2,900 acres as of Monday and was 45% contained.

Wildfires are common in the western United States during the summer, but rare in the eastern United States.
