Health unit reports 98 new cases of COVID, one death

Another 98 Windsor-Essex residents tested positive for COVID-19 and one more person died as a result of the disease.

The local health unit announced Friday that a woman in her 50s had become the area’s 479th resident to succumb to COVID. The woman’s vaccination status was not provided.

Of the new cases, 34 were close contacts of confirmed cases, 19 were acquired in the community, and two were travel-related. The sources of transmission of 43 cases continue to be investigated by the staff of the public health unit.

To date, 22,587 people in Windsor and Essex County have tested positive, including 572 people who are still infected and 21,536 people who are considered recovered, some of whom may suffer lasting health impacts.

Hospitals in the area treat 30 patients with COVID.

The outbreaks remain active in 16 unnamed workplaces and five unnamed community settings.
