The health unit’s Monday update noted 57 cases were reported on Saturday, 59 were reported on Sunday and 62 were reported Monday, for a total of 178 high-risk cases.

Health officials note that because official testing is limited to high-risk patients, the case counts presented by the health unit under-represent the true number of COVID-19 cases in the community.

With the weekend’s new cases, there are now 253 active high-risk cases in the community, a reduction of 62 cases from Friday and 106 from a week ago. Three people are in intensive care with COVID-19, while 48 are in hospital.

To date, 610 people have died in Windsor-Essex from COVID-19. No new COVID-19 deaths were reported Monday.

There are 25 active COVID-19 outbreaks, including 19 outbreaks in long-term care facilities, four in hospital units and two in the general community. The health unit reported 29 active outbreaks on Friday, with four of those outbreaks resolved over the weekend.

Vaccination rates in Windsor and Essex County have remained steady over the last several weeks. About 87 per cent of residents age five or older have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while about 84 per cent have received two doses. Just over half of residents 12 or older have received a third booster shot.

While eligibility for a fourth COVID-19 booster is currently limited to adults over 60 years old and Indigenous adults, so far 17,354 people have received a fourth dose locally.
