Health Canada Recalls 9 More Hand Sanitizers Due to Safety Risks – National | Globalnews.ca

Health Canada has recalled several hand sanitizers across the country over the past two years due to concerns about potential health risks from using the products.

In a public notice notice on Mondaythe agency listed nine new affected products that do not meet Health Canada’s requirements and advised Canadians to stop using them.

According to Health Canada, some of the recalled hand sanitizers contained (or possibly contained) ingredients not allowed by the agency, including undeclared impurities, were not properly labelled, and were sold without proper product authorization or testing, or were counterfeit.

Health Canada is asking Canadians to dispose of the recalled products or return them to local pharmacies that can handle them properly. It also urges people to report any adverse events or complaints.

“Consult your health care professional if you have used these products and have health problems,” the agency said.

In the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the demand for hand sanitizers as one of the layers of protection against the virus.

From June 2020Health Canada has recalled more than 200 hand sanitizers and the list keeps growing.

Health Canada says that alcohol-based hand sanitizers should be used if soap and water are not available to wash hands properly.

The organization says that hand sanitizers with “unacceptable degrees” of ethanol or denaturants have not been approved for use in disinfectants in Canada, and their safety and effectiveness have not been established.

The list of hand sanitizers in the latest recall includes:

• Davey’s Hand Sanitizer Wipes
• Hand sanitizing wipes
• Nomad Jasmine hand sanitizer
• Nomad Hand Sanitizer Lavender
• Nomad Lemongrass Hand Sanitizer
• Nomad Odorless Hand Sanitizer
• Nomad Summertime Hand Sanitizer
• Nomad Winter Cheer Hand Sanitizer
