Charges dropped in high-profile sexual assault case in Halifax after defendant dies in homicide
Early Saturday, police found Thomas’s body at a residence on Braeside Court in Dartmouth, NS and later ruled his death a homicide.
Thomas was previously charged with a high-profile sexual assault, facing charges of sexual assault and forcible confinement in connection with an incident that occurred in 2018. Those have now been dropped.
Carrie Low, who identified herself as the plaintiff in the sexual assault case, had been outspoken about the incident and how she said Halifax police mishandled the case.
Const. The media asked John MacLeod if there was a connection between the defendant and Low, MacLeod replied that the police are “here to talk about the homicide.”
“What I can tell you is that the sexual assault investigation is ongoing and we are investigating that matter further,” he said.
Police say investigators do not believe the killing was random and that they are not looking for other suspects.
Anyone with information on Whynder-Ewing should call the police.
