Gun charges laid after Windsor police respond to call on California Avenue

A call about a gun in Windsor early Thursday resulted in charges against a man who is under numerous court orders not to possess weapons.

Windsor police patrol officers responded around 5:45 am to an alert about a man with a firearm at a residence in the 900 block of California Ave.

The occupants of the address were ordered to exit the residence. All cooperated, including the suspect.

Inside the building, officers discovered a loaded sawed-off shotgun. Ammunition was also found, outside the residence.

A gray 2020 Hyundai automobile was parked on the property. Further investigation determined that the vehicle had been previously reported stolen.

Joshua McGraw, 28, of Essex, was arrested at the scene. His charges include: eight counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited; possessing a prohibited weapon without a license and registration certificate; possessing a loaded regulated firearm; possessing a firearm with an altered serial number; pointing a firearm; and possessing stolen property (value exceeding $5,000).

The Major Crime Unit is continuing to investigate.
