Guild is mobilized and demands a stop to violence against communicators

The violence exerted against the country’s journalists caused, once again, the members of this union to take to the streets to demand protection and an end to the impunity that prevails in the murders of journalists.

Under the cry of: “Justice!” and “Not one more, not one more, not one more murdered!” This Monday, a group of communicators demonstrated on the steps of the Angel of Independence to protest the murders of 11 journalists so far this month alone. anus.

The mobilization, which was directed by the Ministry of the Interior, was called after journalist Luis Enrique Ramírez Ramos was assassinated on May 5 in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

However, this mobilization was framed by the death of two more journalists, raised in the south of the state of Veracruz; Yessenia Moliendo Falconi and Sheila Johana Olivera, from the information portal El Veraz.

During the event, Griselda Triana, wife of the journalist Javier Valdez, murdered in 2017 in Sinaloa, demanded that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador hold a dialogue with those affected and relatives of the fatalities to find answers and stop the violence against the press.

And it is that for the widow of Javier Valdez, since his death she has not stopped thinking about the ease with which they kill a journalist in Mexico, especially in states as violent as Veracruz and Sinaloa.

Meanwhile, the son of journalist Fredy López Arévalo, murdered on October 28, 2021 in Chiapas, demanded the actions of the authorities, from whom, he said, justice cannot be obtained.

He related that after the death of his father, he has had to run into irregularities and omissions by the authorities who have evaded their responsibility to find those responsible for the murder of López Arévalo.

Meanwhile, the reporter Rodolfo Montes, called to recognize that the State is to blame for many attacks on the union.

UNESCO rejects

Earlier, the director general of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, expressed her rejection of Ramírez’s murder.

“It reminds us once again of the high price that journalists are paying in the exercise of their role as watchdogs of society. For this reason, it is essential for society as a whole that the perpetrators of this crime be brought to justice and that measures be taken to reinforce protection mechanisms,” he said.
