Guadalajara would increase the infrastructure budget by more than 200%

Guadalajara, Jal. By 2022, the Guadalajara municipal government plans to exercise a budget of 9,435 million pesos that will be focused on eight strategic axes: infrastructure, security, municipal public services, civil protection, culture, education, sports and social development.

When presenting the preliminary draft of the Budget for 2022, the municipal president of Guadalajara, Pablo Lemus, indicated that the projection for infrastructure and public works will have an increase of more than 225% compared to the one carried out in 2021, reaching 1,092.3 million pesos.

The municipality pointed out that, as of October 1, when the current government took office, it began to work with a budget already assigned, so the proposal for 2022 reflects a reengineering based on priority axes.

This 2021, the resource allocated to infrastructure amounted to 335.8 million pesos, a figure equivalent to 3.6% of the total budget, while for next year 1,092.3 million are projected, which means that 11.5% of the total expenditure of the municipality will be allocated to public work.

According to the budget project, the infrastructure resource will be used for works such as the network of Community Inclusion and Entrepreneurship Centers known as “Colmenas”, the recovery of public spaces and the corrective and preventive maintenance of the streets and avenues of the municipality .

They discard debt

During the presentation, Lemus Navarro stressed that “this budget reduces current spending” and explained that, since the beginning of his administration last October, the Guadalajara city council implemented actions that generated savings of more than 30 million pesos per month.

Therefore, it ruled out the contracting of public debt in the current triennium. “The 2022 Budget project proposes lower current spending, a decrease in payroll and an increase in investment.”
