Government of Nuevo León and academia identify actions to accelerate the digitization of SMEs

Monterrey, NL. The Secretary of State Economy, Iván Rivas Rodríguez, met with executives of the Nuevo León 4.0 initiative and with authorities of the Regiomontana University (U-ERRE), to identify actions to accelerate the digitization of small and medium-sized enterprises, supported by the Smart Factory Lab U-ERRE MIMEC CANIETI.

The rector of the Regiomontana University, Ángel Casán Marcos, commented that the three laboratories related to industry 4.0, in which the University of Monterrey, the Tec de Monterrey and the Autonomous University of Nuevo León also participate, together with the state government and investment funds are at the service of companies so that they can trigger change.

He explained that six years ago the state government, technology-based companies, academia and investment funds met in the Nuevo León 4.0 initiative, because “this is about making a substantive change in society.”

This collaborative model allows generating access to the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, training highly specialized human capital, creating jobs and improving competitiveness.

“We are going to be living an artificial intelligence that is multiplying, all these sciences are going to devastate the world we know, and we have to respond and face it and get on this digital wave,” emphasized the rector of the U-ERRE.

For his part, César Jiménez Flores, president of Ternium and president of Nuevo León 4.0, indicated that it is necessary to resolve how to increase the potential of small and medium-sized companies, with the support of laboratories, “if we want to become the new Silicon Valley , there is too much to do”.

Salvador Barrera, director of the Smart Factory Lab, explained that they link with business clusters and chambers. Authorities from the state of Hidalgo, as well as from Colombia and Brazil, have also approached the laboratory to have consulting and applied research on the internet of things, artificial intelligence, smart devices and digital twins.

The three programs currently working in this laboratory are: Talent Development, Technological Integration and Prototypes, as well as Applied Research and Consulting.

New Leon 4.0

In turn, Clelia Hernández Orta, director of the Nuevo León 4.0 initiative, stressed that one of the companies that decided to join the initiative from the beginning was Ternium, who worked in the MIND 4.0 program, to which 100 scaleups signed up, and Those who are ready to offer solutions were chosen, such as Prysmex (industrial security), who they helped register.

On the other hand, the Roberto Rocca technical school, from Ternium, is making the link between students and companies. For example, a former student created a project to facilitate access to toilets without touching anything, to avoid contagion of Covid-19. They are also working in the steelmaker’s mines to have devices with laser sensors to detect if the ore is loaded from only one side of the transport.

The Nuevo León 4.0 initiative in collaboration with the German company Festo, and the four universities, are working on a pilot program to train 4,000 students at a technical level, as well as 600 teachers in topics related to Industry 4.0.
