Giuliana Olmos on the way up the ranking

In the last two years, Mexican women’s tennis has one hand raised among the best 20 doubles players in the world. Giuliana Olmos has only climbed up the WTA rankings throughout her professional career which began in 2015.

His biggest jump was from 2020 to date, when he went from the 60th to the 20th place that he currently holds in the Masters 1000 in Madrid, where he achieved the finalist step. Regardless of the result, the stage has an impact on a promise of improvement in the classification.

The Mexican tennis player Giuliana Olmos qualified for the Final of the women’s doubles branch of the Mutua Open in Madrid together with the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski, ninth best in the world in the branch, after beating the Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok and the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, 5 -7, 6-1 and 10-6.

”In Madrid the courts are incredible, they have the best clay of all the tournaments. I don’t know what it is, but I love playing here. I am very happy to return, I really enjoy being here. When I am very happy, I play my best tennis and that is reflected on the court,” Olmos told ABC Daily prior to the semifinal.

Olmos played the Madrid Masters four years ago, but did not enter the main draw.

“I didn’t enter the tournament because it was very difficult to be here. Seeing all the games and not playing motivated me to come back and be in the competition.”

Guiliana, born in Austria, with Mexican nationality on her father’s side and residing in California, has spent much of her career being a pioneer for Mexico, making her debut at the WTA Finals and at 28 years of age she became the first Mexican player to reach a WTA final at Monterrey 2018 and the first to win a WTA title at Nottingham 2019, both alongside Desirae Krawczyk. With Canadian Sharon Fichman, Olmos had the best results of her career.
