WHY WATCH? Senators need a bounce back

The last time the Senators faced the Coyotes, on March 5 in Glendale, Ottawa dropped an 8-5 decision to Arizona. The Senators battled back from a 4-0 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the third period, but then allowed four unanswered goals. Parker Kelly scored twice, while Nick Paul, Alex Formenton and Josh Norris also chipped in. The Senators have a 19-19-2-2 record vs. the Arizona organization.

THREE THINGS ABOUT THE COYOTES

Let’s welcome back Arizona coach Andre (Bear) Tourigny to the Ottawa area. I have spent three years behind the 67’s bench from 2017 to 2020 and finished with a tremendous 130-52-10 record. He took the 67’s to the OHL championship in 2019 and lost in the final league. Tourigny will be at the 67’s March Break day game at 2 pm at TD Place Arena on Monday.

The Coyotes are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday at TD Garden Arena. That ended a season-high four-game winning streak for the Coyotes. Nick Schmaltz had a seven-point effort the last time these two teams met in Arizona. He’s on a five-game point streak with 5-14-19 points in that stretch. The Senators need to shut him down.

The Coyotes will be without top defenseman Jacob Chychrun. He has returned to Arizona after he suffered a lower body injury in a collision with defenseman Derek Forbert on Saturday. The hope is he won’t be out long, but the team wants him to have an MRI test before determining a time line. Tourigny was hopeful his status is day-to-day. Chychrun has been the subject of trade talk.
