Funding of $18 million for the purchase of electric buses

A school transportation electrification project will benefit from funding of several million dollars from Quebec.

A sum of $18 million will be invested to support the purchase, by Autobus Transco, of 120 electric buses from the Lion Electric company, announced Tuesday the Minister for Transport and Minister responsible for the Montreal region, Chantal Roll.

“This announcement is one more step towards the electrification of school buses. This is a concrete gesture to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions while taking advantage of our hydroelectricity,” said Ms. Rouleau.

“As an industry leader in school transportation innovation, Autobus Transco recognizes the important role that electrification and zero-emission technologies play in our future,” said the regional director. of Transco, Laurie Henner.

The Government of Quebec specifies that this announcement is part of its Plan for a Green Economy 2030 (PEV 2030). Thus, it promotes the electrification of the province’s vehicle fleet by supporting carriers in the electrification of their fleet.

“We are proud to support, through the Implementation Plan of our Green Economy 2030 Plan, companies such as Autobus Transco, who are committed to contributing to the creation of a low-carbon economy, resilient in the face of climate change and more prosperous,” indicated the Minister of the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change, Benoit Charette.

Quebec hopes to approach its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target, in particular by electrifying 65% of school buses in the province by 2030.

“The transportation sector is responsible for nearly 45% of GHG emissions in Quebec. It is for this reason that our government is taking concrete action to accelerate the electrification of transport,” said Transport Minister François Bonnardel.
