While many contributed to a perfect regular-season record for the St. Clair Fratmen, head coach Mike LaChance knew that not all key contributions would be rewarded with star recognition.

The Ontario Football Conference announced its all-star picks for the 2021 season and the 8-0 Fratmen secured 12 of the 28 star spots.

“You get greedy and you always want a few more, but you’re not going to get all of them,” LaChance said. Nate Norton, for example, led the league in interceptions, but he wasn’t named. Sometimes statistics work for you and sometimes they don’t.

“It’s good to get recognition, but the only thing that matters at the end of the year is when you lift the (championship) trophy over your head and that’s the message you’re trying to convey to them.”

Seven of those all-star picks for the Fratmen made it to the offense, where center Kyle Jennings was named All-Star for the third time and left tackle Corey Levesque was named for the second time.

Quarterback Michael Beale, who led the OFC with 1,762 passing yards and 25 touchdowns along with a passing rate of 146.9.

Running back Jacob Savoni, who led the conference with 924 rushing yards on 177 carries, for an average of 5.22 yards per carry, along with 16 touchdowns.

The Fratmen also had two receivers named as all-conference picks in slot receiver Cody Holmes, who was named for the second time after posting 10 touchdowns on 30 receptions for 683 yards. Wide receiver Jared Hayes-Williams was named for the third time after making 30 receptions for 386 yards and five touchdowns.

Placekicker Jake Holloway was also named on offense after connecting on six of eight field goals while making 54 conversions and recording 13 kickoff singles averaging 61 yards per kick.

“Offensively, at all levels, we lead the way,” LaChance said. “We had the most vote-getter on the line in Jennings, the one with the most votes at the catcher in Holmes, the one with the most votes at the quarterback at Beale, the one with the most votes at the running back, at Savoni, and the kicker (Holloway) was the most voted. “

Defensively for the Fratmen, Jordan Krug, who plays tackle and finish, was selected for the third time after making 15 tackles, recording two sacks and a fumble recovery.

Outside linebacker Josh Allen was an all-conference pick after 14 tackles, one assist, two sacks, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, an interception and a defensive pass.

In high school, Braeden McDougall, who plays linebacker and shortstop safety, was recognized after recording 16 tackles, three assists, three sacks and a forced fumble. Cornerback Billy Patterson was also named after he posted 10 tackles, two assists and four interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Holloway, who now also plays safety for the Fratmen, was also recognized as the conference’s star kicker after averaging 36.1 yards on 25 punts.

“We have a lineman, a linebacker, two defensive running backs and the punter, so we did well,” said LaChance, whose team hosts the Quinte Skyhawks in an OFC semifinal on Saturday.
