France plans to adopt new measures against the Omicron variant

The French government will decide on Monday new measures to try to stop Covid-19, in a context of an exponential increase in infections due to the Omicron variant.

The president, Emmanuel Macron, will participate by videoconference in the health defense council at 4:00 p.m., one hour before the council of ministers is held, which must adopt a bill that transforms the health passport into a passport only for vaccinated .

According to the bill consulted by AFP, the Executive will bet even more on vaccination through this new passport.

Currently, it is possible to access a health passport through full vaccination or with a negative test.

According to the new norm, the future passport will be necessary “for access to leisure activities, to restaurants and beverage establishments, to fairs, seminars and salons or to interregional transport”.

Among the new measures, the return to school, scheduled for Monday, January 3, could also be delayed.

Another possibility would be the establishment of a curfew on December 31, but several scientists considered this Monday that such a specific measure, “just for a day or a night is not of real interest”, as the epidemiologist Pascal Crepey said in the radio Europe 1.

The government could also apply the obligation to wear the mask in some outdoor areas, such as in markets.

On Saturday, France exceeded the threshold of 100,000 daily infections of Covid-19.
