France imposes mandatory use of mask in transport

France on Saturday imposed new measures, among them wearing a mandatory mask in transport from 6 years and the prohibition of sale and distribution of food and drinks on board, to cope with the explosion of cases of Covid-19, with a Omicron variant already majority in the country.

As of Monday, children must wear face masks from 6 years of age (compared to 11 years previously) in public transport, boats, planes and vehicles (including taxis and VTC), as well as in train stations, public transport stations and terminals, according to a decree published on Saturday in the Official Gazette.

Also from Monday and “until January 23, 2022 inclusive, the sale and service for consumption on board food and drinks they are prohibited during the trips “, specifies the text.

The decree does not give more details about the consumption on board, except the fact that the restaurants of the ships are not affected.

“In long-distance trips, this measure will be applied with discernment, in particular for young children and to allow hydration to be possible,” according to a spokesman for the Ministry of Transport.
