Paris | France “formally” denied Wednesday information from the British daily “The Telegraph” according to which it would be ready to make available to the European Union its seat as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
“We formally deny it. The seat is ours and will remain so ”, affirmed the Elysee, reacting to the newspaper which affirms with the one that Emmanuel Macron“ could offer the seat to the UNO ”if the EU supports its plans for a European army .
“We coordinate with the EU as much as necessary and in full sovereignty,” said the Elysee in its reaction.
France is one of the five permanent members of the Security Council along with China, the United States, Russia and the United Kingdom.
“The Telegraph” publishes its article in the midst of the diplomatic crisis between Paris on one side and Washington, Canberra and London on the other following the decision of these three capitals to enter into a strategic partnership in the Indo-Pacific area, which made lose to France an important contract for submarines with the Australians.
