Former Secretary of Health of SLP arrested for possible diversion of 32 million pesos

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of San Luis Potosí reported on the capture of Miguel Ángel Lutzow Steiner, former Secretary of Health during the mandate of PRI Juan Manuel Carreras López.

The agency indicated that the former official is accused of possible crimes of abusive use of public office and criminal association.

“Miguel Ángel ‘N’ was captured by completing an arrest warrant in the capital city, this Tuesday, May 3, by agents of the Investigative Police (PDI),” the FGE said in a statement.

The former head of the health unit is charged with alleged damage to the public treasury, amounting to 32 million pesos, during his management from February 2021, until the culmination of his assignment in September of the same year.

“The detainee will be placed at the disposal of a Control judge, an inmate at the La Pila social reintegration center, so that he can begin his criminal process with the initial hearing,” said the state prosecutor’s office.

Case of a former candidate

Lutzow Steiner took office when Mónica Rangel, at that time head of the state Health Secretariat, resigned from her post to compete for the governorship of the entity under the colors of Morena last year.

The former Morena candidate, and three other people, were arrested on April 13 by agents of the Investigative Police and members of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico.

She is accused of the crimes of abusive use of the public function, criminal association in its form of gang activity and specific fraud for 22 million pesos, after the purchase and sale of alleged pesticides that were never delivered.

One day after the arrest of Mónica Rangel, a control judge of the entity linked the former candidate to the process. Informal pre-trial detention was decreed and the FGE was given three months to carry out investigations.
