“The answer is no. I will support the people of Ontario. I already have my hands full from moving forward,” Ford said bluntly at a press briefing on Tuesday when he was asked about the possibility of supporting one of the leadership candidates. .

Not only does the Conservative premier of the largest province in the country intend to remain neutral, but the members of his party will also have to keep their opinions to themselves.

“For MPs, I believe they’ll have their hands full as well, so no, they won’t be supporting anyone,” Ford continued.

This promise of neutrality comes as the Prime Minister was in Brampton to announce the opening of new places in the education network for the training of doctors. However, the leadership candidate Patrick Brown is the mayor of this city.

Doug Ford’s troops will already have a lot to do in the coming months, when a general election is scheduled for June 2 in Ontario.

In addition to Mr. Brown, federal Conservative MPs Pierre Poilievre and Leslie Lewis, former Quebec Premier Jean Charest and independent Ontario MP Roman Barber are in the running to try to become the next leader of the CCP. In the case of Mr. Barber, he had been expelled from the Progressive Conservative Party of Doug Ford in January 2021 because of his opposition to certain health measures, including confinements.
