Five years in jail for making his wife a slave

A sexagenarian who believed he could use his wife as a sexual slave by creating a climate of terror was sentenced to five years in prison, even though he considers himself a victim in this case.

“Clearly, the accused has difficulty understanding that common life did not allow him to make such demands […]that mere silence or submission is in no way consent,” Judge Normand Bonin recently said at the Joliette courthouse.

The magistrate commented on the case of a sexagenarian from Lanaudière who had put his spouse through hell.

The man, who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the victim, had committed his crimes between 2016 and 2019. Vulgar and denigrating, he did not hesitate to insult his spouse. And when he wanted sex, the woman had no choice but to submit, even though she begged him to leave her alone.

“She was in vain crying, shouting at him how much he hurt her, but he forced her all the same, noted the judge. He expresses no kindness to her and orders her to let him. »

live with fear

These scenes were regular, to the point that the woman had decided to sleep on a small mattress near the French window “to be able to get out quickly if she felt a greater danger”. And every evening, she apprehended the humiliations of her spouse, is it related in the judgment.

The time she considered leaving the man, he told her he was going to “rip her head off”. If she filed a complaint, she had been warned that she was going to be killed.

“She was now sure to leave her skin there if she did not find a way to put an end to these thousand torments suffered for too long,” explained the magistrate.

Fortunately, the woman finally found the courage to report the man, who was quickly arrested.

He doesn’t seem to understand

Guilty of sexual assault and death threats, the accused does not seem to understand the seriousness of his actions. Because for him, the sexual assaults were intended “only to lower the tension”. And still according to him, the victim exaggerated the gestures.

“No one can claim the right to control, to dominate a person, to appropriate it to satisfy his personal ends”, however recalled the judge by denouncing these crimes “marked with hatred and prejudice”.

Thus, it was out of the question that he was sentenced to two years in prison and probation as requested by the defense. The judge instead opted for five years in prison, among other things to deter those who would be tempted to do so with their spouse.

The unworthy spouse was also placed on the sex offender registry for 20 years.
