Five-year-old sent to hospital following house fire in northeast Edmonton

A five-year-old child was taken to hospital after a northeast Edmonton house fire Monday evening.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) received a report of a fire at a single-family home at 4:35 pm Six fire crews arrived at the home near 66 Street and 132 Avenue three minutes later, said Rowan Anderson, EFRS spokesperson.

“There was a mom and three children that basically self-evacuated the home on their own but there was a five-year-old boy that needed to be rescued by firefighters,” Anderson said.

Anderson said the child was taken to hospital as a “precautionary measure” and that he seemed to be doing OK when firefighters brought him out. He was assessed by emergency medical services and transported.

No other injuries were reported.

Anderson said the fire was deemed under control at 4:55 pm
