The quintet is believed to be behind at least thirty vehicle thefts since last spring.

The wave of larceny began in May 2021 in the greater metropolitan area.

“The suspects used various tricks to commit the crimes. They would sometimes show up in different mall parking lots and steal targeted cars. At other times, they installed GPS locators under vehicles. These were then stolen a few hours or days later during the night, in the entrances of residences, ”said the Laval police in a press release.

The targeted vehicles were rather expensive, namely Jeep Grand Cherokees, Dodge Durangos, Dodge Rams and Ford F-series.

According to what the investigation made it possible to establish, at least six of these thefts would have been committed on the territory of Laval, but several others took place in various cities of Quebec and Ontario.

The total value of the stolen vehicles is estimated at approximately $2 million.

According to the authorities, once stolen, these were intended for export.

The five suspects pinned as part of this investigation are Jean-Guy Lebeau, 39, Dave Milliard, 40, Kevin Lafontaine, 33, Jean Tellier, 44 and Joel Simon Campusano, 29.

They were questioned, then appeared at the Laval courthouse on various charges.

Lebeau and Milliard remained detained, while Lafontaine, Tellier and Campusano were released on conditions.

This major investigation was conducted by the Laval police, in collaboration with the SPVM, the Sûreté du Québec, the Trois-Rivières police, the Terrebonne police, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Port authorities of Montreal, the Insurance Bureau of Canada, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Toronto Police.
