Feijóo promises Von der Leyen to respect Sánchez’s recovery plan


The leader of PP, Alberto Núñez Feijoo, has denounced this Tuesday before the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the Spain delay to the execute european fundsin a meeting within the framework of the European People’s Party congress, Feijóo’s first international appointment after taking over the party’s presidency.

From this meeting, PP sources have highlighted that it had an “institutional” character rather than a party one, and that both spoke of the post-pandemic European funds, of which Spain has been the first EU country to receive two disbursementswaves energy interconnections in Europe.

Before Von der Leyen, Feijóo has promised to comply if he is elected President of the Government with the commitments agreed by the current Executive of Pedro Sánchez and Brussels in the recovery plan, which extend until 2026, because despite the fact that it was not counted with the opposition sending the opposite message “would be bad for Spain” as indicated by the PP.

Meetings with other leaders

Given the concern expressed by Feijóo about the delay in the execution of the funds, and according to PP sources, Von der Leyen confirmed that, as stated in the fund’s rules, disbursements will not take place if the milestones.

However, these sources did not specify whether the president of the European Commission shares the concern about the management of European funds by the Government that has made public the opposition in Spain.

Feijóo has also met with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola; the outgoing president of the EPP, Donald Tusk; the Greek prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis; the Romanian, Nicolae Ciuca; and the Swedish, Ulf Hjalmar Kristersson; and the popular leaders in Germany, Friedrich Merz, or France, Christian Jacob, among other European popular politicians.
