Fatal collision in Alma: a septuagenarian lost his life

A pedestrian of 70 years old was died after having was hit head-on by a car in Alma, Lac-Saint-Jean, early Saturday morning.

According to information held by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. on Larouche Avenue, near Arsenault Street, in the Naudville sector.

The seriously injured victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, his death was quickly declared in the hospital.

The man from Alma was not carrying any ID with him. It was therefore the public who made it possible to identify the man in the evening. His identity will be revealed in the afternoon, Sunday.

The driver involved, who escaped unscathed, was questioned by SQ investigators. At this time, there does not appear to be any criminal element in this matter.

“What we say is that the conditions were not ideal in terms of road safety. The pavement was wet and there was fog, ”explains SQ spokesperson Hélène Nepton.

A reconstructionist in collision investigation came to analyze the scene. The area was closed to motorists for several hours.
