Family members demand freedom for Del Río Virgen one month after his arrest

A month after his arrest, family and friends demanded freedom to Jose Manuel del Rio Virgo, the technical secretary of the Political Coordination Council (Jucopo) of the Senate, who they say is a political prisoner in Veracruz.

They gathered in the capitals and places of the country, such as the Zócalo in Mexico City; Chetumal, Quintana Roo; Xalapa and Papantla, Veracruz; Tuxtepec, Oaxaca; Acapulco Guerrero; Tepoztlán, Morelos and Tijuana, where they claimed Del Río’s innocence.

They specified that on January 22, it had been a month since Del Río Virgen was deprived of his liberty and separated from his family, “accused without evidence” of the murder of René Tovar, candidate for mayor of Cazones Herrera.

For this reason, they demanded a fair trial, with unlimited observance of the law, both for José Manuel and for all those people who were unjustly deprived of their liberty.

They expressed confidence that federal justice would release the Senate official as a judge granted the provisional suspension in the amparo offered by his defense, which was received as good news among his family and friends.

They also acknowledged the support provided by the Senate was given to José Manuel del Río, by the Jucopo chaired by the senator Ricardo Monreal and with the integration of the Special Commission chaired by Dante Delgado and it has documented some 50 cases of abuse of power and human rights violations in Veracruz.

The Special Commission reaffirmed that José Manuel del Río Virgen is the victim of injustice and political revenge, as his incarceration is not an isolated event in cases of abuse of power under the Cuitláhuac administration, as he is linked to trial without evidence incriminate.
