FUN IN THE SUN

We love a classic, but we admit we love a slightly subversive classic even more. Enter this ‘Sun of a Beach’ black raffia hat from Palm Angels. With its standard shape and details (wide brim, fringed edges) combined with edgy finishing touches (think detachable pins and phrases on your face), it’s definitely a style that will start conversations wherever you choose to wear it.

RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS

With the summer we’ve had here in Vancouver, it feels appropriate to call this the Wet Coast, not the West Coast. And while it’s been a bit of a downer, it gives us a reason to invest in pieces like this ‘Beru’ hat from Rus. Main in Spain of recycled polyester, it is waterproof, light and very practical, with a visor on the top and long straps to hold it under the chin, ideal if it is also very windy.

RETRO RENAISSANCE

Whether you’re a fan of the ’70s, ’80s, or ’90s, or were born in one of these decades, chances are you remember wearing hats like this Crochet Rolled Brim Bucket Hat in your early years. Made in Italy by Swedish stalwart brand Acne Studios, it’s cut from a cotton-wool blend that’s great for a variety of summer climates and is the perfect blend of nostalgia and cool to keep it feeling very contemporary.

THINKING CAP

A standard baseball cap with a trendy twist? Yes please. This ‘Charlie’ version from APC is made from 100% cotton in a color called ‘navy’, with six panels, an embroidered logo, a classic curved brim and an adjustable back tab. The best part: It works well with both sporty looks and dressier outfits, adding an edgy vibe to the latter.

RED HOT

Designers and sports brands seem to be collaborating on everything and anything these days, but we’re not complaining. One of the latest partnerships to appear on our radar is Puma x Ami, which launched this spring with a collection of streetwear and sportswear. Our pick: This bucket hat, which features an embroidered hybrid logo on the front, and whose bright reddish-orange hue gives off loud and friendly vibes, while its extra-long brim gives it big attitude.
