Fab 5: stylish skirts

Rebecca Tay presents five skirts to wear repeatedly, now through the end of summer.

.

We hate to say it, but the days of tights and boots aren’t too far away, so until then, take advantage of these last few days of summer and get those legs out there.

Yes, there’s nothing quite as carefree and youthful as a pair of denim shorts, but for a more dressy, work-appropriate option, skirts are your friend. From midi styles to patterned versions, Rebecca Tay presents five skirts to wear repeatedly, now through the end of summer.

BLUE SKY THOUGHT

We love a printed skirt – it’s the perfect way to liven up an oversized white button down blouse, simple T-shirt and chunky ribbed knit in the winter. This one from Paloma Wool, the creative independent label based in Barcelona with a super loyal following, features an upbeat and cute cherub and sky print and has a classic denim skirt silhouette with elastication for comfort.

Contrary to what you might believe, a mini skirt is a great piece of clothing for the season: short enough to keep you cool, but easy to throw on over leggings or even just boots and socks if the weather really gives you the creeps, which, let’s be honest, it could be. This twill style has a high waistline and front patch pockets for a little extra detail; we love it with a slouchy sweater or the matching cropped jacket for a complete head-to-toe look.

IN BLACK AND WHITE

This Isabel Marant ‘Carmina’ skirt is still an investment, to be sure, but with more than a deep discount from its original price and plenty of sizes still available, we say get it while you can. With an asymmetrical hem and ruched shape, it’s sophisticated and exudes the designer’s trademark confidence; Wear it with sandals for summer, heels for work, and boots for a cool winter weekend.

BALLET CLASS

Is there anything more elegant than a chiffon ballet skirt with soft pleats? Maybe a dress in the same aesthetic, but other than that, this ‘Twirl’ look from Wilfred definitely takes the cake. Made from ‘fête chiffon’, a lightweight semi-sheer fabric with a dreamy drape, it has an elasticated waist and pleats that soften towards the hem. Plus, like many of the brand’s styles, it comes in over 10 shades, if you fall in love with it so much you need one for every day of the week.

POINT INGENUITY

Nothing says ‘fall’ more than a ribbed knit, whether it’s a sweater or a skirt like this fitted pencil style. The epitome of cozy elegance, it’s the ultimate piece for work or the weekend: leather heels and a roll-neck blouse and you’re ready to hit the office; sneakers and a hoodie and you’re ready for brunch.
