Extensive police operation: Cégep Marie-Victorin evacuated

The presence of a man with a firearm near the Cégep Marie-Victorin, in the Montreal-North sector, was at the origin of a whole commotion of combat, Tuesday afternoon, forcing the complete evacuation of the establishment.

A large police operation was still in progress around 3:30 p.m., but according to information gathered by the police at the scene, the suspect had probably left the scene.

According to our information, the individual was not threatening with people. He was not alone at the time, he who was possibly accompanied by a few people.

As a preventive measure, the educational establishment was completely evacuated. Some students also found themselves on the sidewalks without coats, under heavy snow.

“I have to go back inside, I left all my stuff in the classroom!” said a student met outside of Cégep.

“We secured the premises and the place was then searched,” said agent Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the Montreal police.

Even the SPVM’s tactical intervention group was dispatched to the scene, in the event that the threat was still present.

In the end, no weapon was found. According to what witnesses have told and whose version could be corroborated by the images of surveillance cameras, the suspect in this case left the scene without causing any injuries. The people accompanying him would also have left the area in an unknown direction.

An investigation has been opened to try to find them and to shed light on their real intentions.

The person who was arrested during the operation was released without any charges. She would have nothing to do with the events.
