Explosives and firearms seized from a man in Abitibi

Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec carried out a disturbing seizure of firearms and explosive materials last Friday in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

The search took place in a residence in Rochebaucourt, a small municipality of a hundred inhabitants located north of Val-d’Or.

On the spot, the police arrested the occupant of the premises, Jason Cahill, 26 years old.

During the search, the police discovered 10 firearms, including a stolen handgun, as well as “several explosive materials”. Nearly twenty grams of cocaine were also confiscated.

It is unclear why Cahill had this amount of explosive material in his home and what his intentions were.

The Sûreté du Québec preferred not to advance on the subject.

Jason Cahill appeared on seven counts and remained in custody until his return to court.

He was also due to undergo his release investigation on Wednesday.
