Explosion in Beauceville: the identity of the victims unveiled

We now know the identity of the three workers at the Beauceville plant who perished in a violent explosion on Monday.

The deaths of Jean Lachance, 51, and Martin Roy, 50, both from Saint-Georges, as well as Mario Morin, 57, from Beauceville, were confirmed on Wednesday morning by the Sûreté du Québec. The three victims are employees of Bois Ouvré Beauceville, confirms the union.

Mario Morin had been working for Bois Ouvré since 1992, according to his Facebook page, which received messages of sympathy this morning. According to one of his relatives, met near his residence on Wednesday morning, the 57-year-old man was “very close” to members of his family, with whom he maintained regular contact. The family is “completely devastated” by the tragedy.

“Part of me passed away at 4:48 pm tonight. Such a wonderful being who is my brother. You were my accomplice, my friend, my confidant, ”his sister, Sonia Morin, said with emotion on social networks. “You died a hero. Your kindness will have carried you to paradise. ”

Several relatives and friends of the deceased have also put a candle as their profile photo on Facebook, in solidarity.

Three other people are currently in critical condition and are hospitalized at l’Enfant-Jésus, in Quebec, says Louis-Philippe Bibeau, spokesperson for the SQ. Another worker is in intensive care at Saint-Georges Hospital, according to the CISSS Chaudière-Appalaches. An eighth person transported to hospital during the explosion was discharged the same day, continues the CISSS.

Among the injured are two employees of Sylvain Nadeau Toiture, who were carrying out repair work on the roof of the plant when the explosion occurred.

“Our best thoughts, wishes, prayers are with our employees at this time! We think of you boys! Please be strong! ”The company commented on its Facebook page, sharing its“ immense support ”towards affected families and loved ones.

Remember that a call was made to 911 shortly before 7:30 am, Monday morning, concerning an explosion heard at Séchoirs de Beauce (SDB) / Bois Ouvré, located on the 134e Street. Workers reportedly tried to bring a fire under control in the factory, even as subcontractors carried out repairs on the roof.
