Everything we know about Met Gala 2022: How to watch, theme, guest list

The most important night of the year in fashion is almost here.

After several postponements due to the pandemic, the 2022 Met Gala will once again take place on the first Monday in May, just eight months after the star-studded red carpet of 2021, which saw stellar looks from Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X and Kendall Jenner.

And while uptown dancing always delivers spectacular style statements, we’re guessing that this time around the celebs will be going especially big, as last year’s event was “a smaller, more intimate affair.” by Vogue.

Here’s everything you need to know about the big night.

What is Met Gala 2022?

Traditionally held on the first Monday in May, the fashion festival will take place on Monday, May 2 this year. Vogue will broadcast the red carpet arrivals live beginning at 6 pm ET.

Where is the Met Gala taking place?

The gala takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and raises funds for the museum’s Costume Institute.

What is the theme this year?

This year’s theme is “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” following 2021’s “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

It is based on a two-part museum exhibition, the second installation of which will “reflect the evolution of the American style” and also “explore the work of individual tailors, dressmakers and designers,” as Costume Institute Senior Curator Andrew bolton, told vogue.

How can I watch this year’s Met Gala?

Vogue’s official Met Gala livestream will begin at 6pm ET and will be broadcast across the fashion bible’s digital platforms as well as on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Vanessa Hudgens, La La Anthony and Vogue Managing Editor Hamish Bowles will share hosting duties.

Who’s on the guest list?

While Vogue is keeping its guest list under wraps until just before the big event, Page Six Style exclusively revealed that Megan Thee Stallion will be attending this year’s gala dressed in Moschino.

And Katy Perry, despite being proud of her “wacky, crazy, wild, big, fun, colorful” look from previous years, exclusively told us that this time she’s “playing a completely different card.”

Beyond that, the Met Gala regularly attracts the biggest celebs in the game: Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift have all attended multiple times, so expect plenty of other big names.

A star that won’t be there? Zendaya, who “has to work and do some movies” instead. There is always next year!

What is the dress code?

This year, it’s all about “gilded glamour” as the event “will ask attendees to embody the grandeur, and perhaps the dichotomy, of Gilded Age New York.” according to Vogue.

Who is the host?

Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda are this year’s celebrity co-hosts. Tom Ford, Instagram’s Adam Mosseri and Anna Wintour will continue their roles as honorary co-chairs of the Met Gala.
