“We are hard at work to be able to relocate them all. This is our priority right now,” said the mayor of Saguenay, Julie Dufour, in an interview with TVA Nouvelles on Sunday.

The latter explained that relocating the approximately 180 evacuees will not be an easy task in this period of moving and housing crisis. We must also take into account that in addition to a roof, these families will need furniture, since they cannot go back to get it, recalled the mayor of Saguenay.

Thus, she estimates that sums will also be necessary to financially support these people who had to leave everything behind. “I think it takes a special program,” said Ms. Dufour, adding that an exceptional situation requires exceptional measures.

Currently, the City is working to find out what their needs are with the victims. “My number one priority is to house people, but before that you have to meet everyone’s needs,” explained Julie Dufour. When this data collection is finished, the City will make an announcement of its needs so that citizens who so wish can come to the aid of evacuated families.

The mayor reminded everyone that it is still impossible to know whether the victims will be able to return to their homes or not.
