Eugene Levy shares “how rewarding” his career is as he receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

One of Canada’s most famous fathers and beloved actors, Eugene Levy, now has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Levy was included on the star-studded runway Friday morning for his television career, and his name now ranks 2,773 among the list of celebrities on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.

“We are very excited to welcome Eugene Levy to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In addition to his artistic achievements, Eugene has shown exceptional dedication to his craft and has become a beloved figure in the industry,” Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martínez said in a statement. “His professionalism and genuine passion for his work have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and, of course, his millions of fans.”

The Emmy-winning actor, producer and writer is best known for his comedy series “Schitt’s Creek,” co-created with his son Dan Levy, but has appeared in several notable comedy films including “American Pie,” “Best in Show.” and “Waiting for Guffman.”

Earning this star is the furthest one could go from one’s hometown, Levy noted in his acceptance speech.

“My hometown, Hamilton, was a big steel town when I was growing up and if you didn’t want to spend your life in the steel mills or working in the scrap metal business or selling suits in one of Hamilton’s fine haberdasheries, you had to get an education. . and become a doctor, dentist, lawyer, engineer or accountant, but no one went into the entertainment business; It just didn’t happen in Hamilton in the 1960s,” Levy said, before addressing the stage roles he played for the first time. when he fell in love with the industry.

“Even then, the sound of audience laughter had a huge appeal for me, so, to cut to the chase, that’s how I spent the next 50-plus years working in comedy, playing comedy characters. How gratifying that was, spending your life making people laugh.”

Although he spent decades making people laugh, Levy doesn’t feel like the funniest person in the family.

“Here’s some irony: I’m not the fun guy in my family. That medal belongs to my wife, Deb, and I’m still getting the star. Go figure.”

While Levy’s son wasn’t present – “He’s filming a movie in Bulgaria, and tell me it doesn’t look like an episode straight out of ‘Schitt’s Creek’” – he was joined by “American Pie” co-star Jason Biggs. and Catherine O’Hara and her daughter Sarah Levy.

Sarah Levy, who also played Twyla Sands on “Schitt’s Creek,” introduced her father before being introduced to her star and talked about what it was like growing up surrounded by the world of film and television as Eugene Levy honed his skills for various projects, even while “standing at the door” of her bedroom singing the same song over and over while studying for finals.

“I am continually amazed by his resilience, his attention to detail, his passion and his unwavering dedication to his craft. He takes pride in ensuring the final product is the best it can be and watching him work reminds me that even if perfection isn’t possible, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t strive for it,” Sarah Levy. saying.

O’Hara also took the podium to talk about his old friend and former “Second City Television” castmate about the kind of actor and man he is.

“Eugene is not your typical Hollywood star at all,” O’Hara said. “He is a very, very private man. He’s trying to keep it that way. […] But Eugene, I’m sorry to tell you that your immense talent and simple kindness will keep us wanting to know you more and love you. I am so proud of you.”
