Enel obtains credit line for 652 million dollars for projects in Latin America

The Enel energy group will promote investments in sustainable projects to combat the climate crisis in Latin America with a line of credit of 652.85 million dollars, granted by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and guaranteed by SACE, the Italian agency export credit.

“The EIB has made available to Enel a financing framework linked to sustainability that includes a multi-country, multi-company and multi-currency financing line of up to 652.85 million dollars, backed by a guarantee from SACE,” the group reported on Monday. a statement.

Enel underlined that “it is the first transaction related to EIB and SACE sustainability and the largest EIB loan ever granted to a private sector entity outside Europe”. The projects financed with this mechanism are expected to generate about 2,307 GWh of clean energy each year, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of 1.32 million homes.

As part of the agreement, the Peruvian renewables subsidiary Enel Green Power Peru has obtained 130 million dollars for the construction of wind and photovoltaic solar projects for about 300 MW in Peru. The rest of the 652.85 million dollars will be available to Enel to promote sustainable investments in Brazil and Colombia through renewable generation and energy distribution projects.

The $652.85 million credit line is linked to Enel’s ability to reach the target for direct greenhouse gas emissions, measured in grams of CO2eq/kWh by 2023.
