“We will leave at night, but we will come back […] in two weeks. You have 15 days to prepare […] and there will be many more of us”, launched Bernard “Rambo” Gauthier.

The crowd gathered in front of him at the Tourny fountain was much less dense than that of the day before, even if several hundred demonstrators were present. The organizers have even postponed the timing of the speech a few times, hoping to accommodate more people.

“What we are doing is giving Legault a chance to back down. If he hasn’t heard the heart cry of everyone here […], we are going to move forward with confidence, ”warned Keven Bilodeau, head of the Beauce convoy.

Kevin “Big” Grenier, for his part, said that the next demonstration would be a “Woodstock” of freedom because “there will be people in criss“.

After having issued a first warning in the morning, the Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) warned on Twitter that from Sunday, 5 p.m., “any vehicle immobilized in a prohibited place is liable to a fine and even of towing in order to avoid the continuation of the offence’.

Hundreds of protesters on site

Sunday’s rally drew a few hundred supporters of the “Freedom Convoy” outside the National Assembly, who seemed far from being cooled by the -16 degrees Celsius on the thermometer.

At the start of the day, one of the organizers of the “Freedom convoy”, who has been making his fed up with health measures heard since Thursday in front of the National Assembly, had invited his sympathizers to return to the place around 11 a.m.

“We will return to Parliament from 11 a.m., me, “Rambo” [Gauthier] and “Big” [Grenier] we will be there, ”Keven Bilodeau said in a video posted on social networks.

“I personally invite you all to come and meet with us once again. It’s going to be as festive as yesterday. […] Legault will no longer have the choice to back down, ”said the man from his hotel room in Quebec.

“Not a seat”

The morning after Saturday’s demonstration, which brought together a few thousand people on Parliament Hill, there was dead calm around the National Assembly.

In the morning, the incessant cacophony of horns from truckers and supporters gave way to the usual engine noises on René-Lévesque Boulevard, before resuming at 10:30 a.m.

About twenty trucks and semi-trailers were still parked on the side of the road.

“We did what we had to do, we made noise and we showed them that we were exhausted,” said Éric Bolduc, a trucker still there.

“The goal was not to make a siege. We will leave when they ask us to, ”he adds, adding that the authorities had not given them any departure time for the moment.
