A vacant two-story building was engulfed in flames in downtown Montreal on Friday morning.

The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. in the building located at the intersection of rue Saint-Christophe and rue Sainte-Catherine Est.

About fifty firefighters were mobilized to fight the flames, said a spokesperson for the Montreal Fire Department (SIM).

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, but the cause remains unknown.

No one was injured in the fire since the building is vacant, according to the SIM, which does not know the extent of the damage caused to the building.

It is possible that the file will be transferred to the police to investigate the cause and circumstances of this fire.
