Employment breaks record in January by registering more than 142,000 jobs with the IMSS


The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) reported that there are 20 million 762,419 jobs as of January 31, 2022, of which 86.7% are permanent and 13.3% are temporary.

In that sense, the IMSS reported that in January of this year there was a monthly increase of 142,271 jobs, “the highest figure since records have been recorded considering only the months of January.”

It should be noted that 64.9% of jobs created in the first month of the year were temporary, that is, with fixed-term contracts, while the permanent ones were 49,846 places.

Specialists considered part of the recovery of jobs in January due to the subcontracting reform, as well as to the economic sectors that have begun to reactivate, especially in manufacturing and services.

During the last 12 months, an increase of 940,768 jobs was registered. This annual increase is the highest on record.

The IMSS highlighted that the sectors that registered the most jobs were transport and communications with 11.3% and construction with 7.6% and extractive with 7.3 percent.

With respect to contribution base salary The average number of jobs affiliated with the IMSS reached an amount of 466.8 pesos, “this salary represents a nominal annual increase of 8.9%, the highest recorded for a month of January in the last 10 years.”
