The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) reported that jobs associated with women have already recovered the level registered prior to Covid-19, since the institution’s figures reflect a level above that observed before the health emergency.

Until September 30, 2021, 7 million 896 thousand 757 workers have been registered with the IMSS, which means 114 thousand 866 jobs more than those compared in February 2020, before the pandemic began.

Social Security reported that 8 of the 9 economic activities have fully recovered the number of jobs linked to women: agriculture, commerce, construction, transportation and communications, electricity, transformation, social and extractive services.

Together, these sectors account for 76 percent of female worker employment nationwide.

Only the business services sector has not recovered the employment registered in the IMSS associated with women, and currently registers 92 percent of the level observed in February 2020.

Currently, the 30-year-old group of women has a sustained recovery of 99.4 percent of the level registered in February 2020; in the case of men, this percentage is 96.3 percent. In addition, the group of workers between the ages of 30 and 64 have managed to recover all of the employment that existed before the pandemic.

On the other hand, micro-enterprises, with 1 to 5 positions, were not affected during the entire health emergency; However, small companies, with 6 to 50 workers, and large companies, with more than a thousand jobs, have recovered all the jobs associated with women.

Regarding age range, working women between the ages of 20 and 59 have managed to recover all the registered jobs.

By federal entity, 23 states have reached all employment associated with working women; Within this group, Baja California, Durango, Chihuahua, Tabasco and Aguascalientes stand out with a level above 105 percent compared to February 2020.

Mexico is the only country in Latin America where a clear trend of sustained recovery in employment is observed, observed with administrative records for each country.

Social Security statistics show that the participation of women in the formal labor market has increased in recent years, since they currently represent 39 percent of total employment.
