Lawyer Jose Coello Trejoformer lawyer of Emilio Lozoya Austindistanced himself from the meetings held by his father, Mr. Emilio Lozoya Thallman, with the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Maneroin order to achieve a criterion of opportunity for your child.
Through a statement, José Coello Trejo recounted the legal strategy that he followed since August 16, 2017 when he assumed the defense of Lozoya Austin to defend him against the accusations he faced in the Odebrecht and Agro Nitrogenados cases linked to his role as CEO of Mexican oil. The lawyer Coello charged that the Lozoya family maintains a debt with him for the services provided by him.
After the disclosure of an audio where the attorney general, Alejandro Gertz Manero, is heard threatening Lozoya’s father to withdraw from the amparos promoted by him, and withdraw Coello from his defense, the latter indicated that he never agreed with the strategy of Emilio Lozoya Thallman to approach the FGR.
In Coello’s opinion, despite the fact that federal judges issued arrest warrants against Lozoya at the request of the FGR, the accusations against him former director of Pemex they never had legal support in writings, promotions, legal technical studies and proceedings of the Public Function Secretary.
He mentioned that after Mrs. Gilda Margarita, mother of Lozoya Austin, was arrested in Germany on July 24, 2019, on October 29 of that year, Mr. Emilio Lozoya Thallman and his son Juan Jesús filed a motion before the Sixth District Court of Amparo in Criminal Matters of Mexico City, amparos 873/2019 and 928/2019, in fear of possible arrest and as a means of defense to attend meetings with Gertz Manero.
He explained that after months of his office assuming the defense of Lozoya and his relatives, the relationship “was wearing down and deteriorating week by week, since both the father and the brother of Mr. Emilio Lozoya Austin attended meetings with the Prosecutor. General and Deputy Attorney General Juan Ramos, without giving us notice or details of them.”
He argued that once Lozoya was arrested in February 2020 in Spain, the tension and distance with Lozoya Thallman increased, “since there was a total discrepancy in the legal strategy that my office suggested and the one that he wanted to follow.”
He pointed out that at first, Emilio Lozoya Austin “did not agree with his father’s strategy, since, as he told me, they wanted my client to make accusations for which he did not have and does not have evidence, a very clear fact that I made it known days after being arrested, when I visited him in the prison in Malaga, Spain”.
The lawyer José Coello Trejo highlighted that it was on June 5, 2020 when the former director of Pemex sent him a letter of thanks for the services provided by his office, “hinting a clear coercion and pressure that the Prosecutor’s Office exerted on him and his environment. family”.
He asserted that at that time he required him to pay the agreed fees plus the expenses he had incurred for the defense of both himself and his family, for which they agreed to an agreement acknowledging the debt and dation in payment, which was signed in Spain.
“In this agreement he instructed me so that in his name and representation with the powers that he granted me since 2017, I initiate all the judicial and extrajudicial acts to obtain the payment of the 31 million pesos and other accessories that Mr. Carlos Autrey Diaz Aldrete. It was also added that if by April 4, 2021, my fees had not been paid to me, the rights of the mutual agreement that I had signed with Autrey Diaz Aldrete would be transferred to me as consideration.
“Surprisingly, on May 24 of the current year, Mr. ERLZ, in a fraudulent manner, revoked my powers of attorney, a situation in which this office in my charge will legally proceed not only to claim the legitimate payment of the fees, but also to take it to eminently criminal stadiums,” he detailed.

On June 23, an audio of a conversation between the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero, and Mr. Emilio Lozoya Thalmann, father of the former director of Pemex, was released, where he sets out the conditions for Lozoya Austin to access a criterion of opportunity before he was extradited from Spain to Mexico.
Gertz ordered Lozoya Thalmann to desist from the amparo lawsuits promoted by him against any act of authority by the FGR, and to end the relationship with José Coello Trejo.
In this regard, the lawyer said that “the leak of a recording (…) in which the Attorney General of the Nation clearly intimidates, coerces and forces both Emilio Lozoya Thallman and his son Juan Jesús to withdraw from the amparos would demonstrate the negotiation that was taking place. In addition, he expresses himself with high-sounding words against me, expressly requesting that I be relieved of defense. It is worth mentioning that although he does not mention my name, at that time I was the defense attorney.
“I remain absolutely free to analyze what can legally proceed against the humiliating, denigrating and abusive expressions with which the Attorney General of the Republic treats me in that recording, whose lawyer I was, I rescued his brother, I lent him services to his daughter and I am even still his agent, despite the fact that I asked him to revoke my powers.”
