The CCLA announced Friday evening that it has filed an application for judicial review with the Federal Court seeking an order quashing the Emergency Proclamation, Emergency Measures Regulations and Emergency Measures Order. economic emergency.

“There is no doubt that the protest in Ottawa was incredibly disruptive and many suffered harassment, intimidation and property damage, including some racist and homophobic. The police must be there to respond to these acts and protect communities. But, the national invocation of the Emergency Measures Act to deal with the current situation is unconstitutional and sets a dangerous precedent,” the association tweeted following the announcement.

Earlier in the day, she called the use of the Emergencies Act “unnecessary, unjustifiable and unconstitutional.”
