Eight Greenpeace activists immobilize machinery of the Mayan Train

Cacún, QRoo.- Eight activists from greenpeace immobilized this morning the machinery that is clearing the jungle of Quintana Roo for the construction of Section 5 of the mayan train.

The activists demand the immediate suspension of this section, which they say puts the jungle, the water and the cenotes at risk, while on their website they urge people to sign the petition called NO to the devastation of the Mayan jungle.

The text of said petition states that section 5 lacks a Environment impact manifestation objective and based on scientific studies, in view of which it must be suspended immediately.

“If this project continues without considering the impacts on the environment, we will lose the natural wealth that has made Mexico one of the most beautiful countries. The cenotes that harbor life will be destroyed. Species like the jaguar, a symbol of the Mayan cultural heritage, will be left without their only home.”

“Every day that passes, the destruction of the Mayan jungle advances. It is unforgivable to witness this, from anywhere in Mexico, and do nothing, “you can read on the site of Greenpeace Mexico.

“Sign this petition today and share it. Let us not allow the native communities to lose their way of life, that biodiversity disappear and that our country faces a future without one of its most important ecosystems,” reads the site.

The petition already has a total of 22,647 signatures.
