Winter is coming.

Take off those parkas and tune up your snow thrower because we’re going to be hit by a blast of winter weather starting Sunday afternoon.

In a special weather release, Environment Canada warned of winter weather in central Alberta, including the city of Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park, through Tuesday.

Periods of snow, rain, and freezing rain from time to time are stored for the next 24 hours. Snow will begin to fall Monday morning in areas along the foothills and move into the central areas in the afternoon.

5-10 cm of snow is expected for areas near Nordegg and Rocky Mountain House Monday night, while 2-5 cm can be expected for areas near and southwest of Edmonton. An additional 5-10 cm is likely overnight Monday for areas near the British Columbia border, such as Hinton and Grande Prairie. Areas to the southeast through Edmonton and into Saskatchewan can expect a total of 10-15 cm of snow by Tuesday morning.

To make matters worse, winds will pick up from the northwest and drift or drift snow is likely before the winds die down Tuesday night.

Stay safe on the roads and try to stay close to home if you can.

I guess that amazing fall weather had to end at some point, but if I’m honest I’m really up for some snow too.
