Economic reactivation plan allowed the consolidation of competitiveness in CDMX: Sedeco


Within the framework that Mexico City is the best positioned entity in the 2022 edition of the State Competitiveness Index (ICE) of the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (imco), the head of the Ministry of Economic Development (Sedeco) from the country’s capital, Fadlala Akabani Hneide, assured that this result should be taken as an indicator of the proper functioning of the local economic recovery plan.

This Wednesday, the state official explained that the data provided by the imco they certify the favorable behavior of the capital’s economy in all its sectors and subsectors.

“Despite the pandemic, the capital ranks first nationally in competitiveness, with our strongest indexes being the highest GDP per capita, sustainable management of the environment, greater participation of women in the productive sphere, advanced connectivity and a degree of schooling, all issues promoted in this administration”, pointed out the head of the Sedeco.

The capital secretary stressed that this type of evaluation includes the behavior of the financial, telecommunications and transportation sectors.

Indicators related to Internet access, physical communication channels, as well as the use and access to financial services were also considered, in depth.

ICE 2022 results

According to the results of the 2022 edition of the ICEthe Mexico City it was the most competitive entity and the only one considered within the very high competitiveness classification.

It was the entity with the highest life expectancy (76.7 years), which has the largest hospital beds (1.8 per 1,000 inhabitants), medical and nursing personnel (5.4 per 1,000 inhabitants) and specialized medical personnel (2.4 per every 1,000 inhabitants); “which is a clear indication of a more widespread access to health than in the rest of the country.”

It also observed the highest degree of schooling, and was the entity with the highest GDP per capita (407,839 pesos per person) and with the greatest economic diversification (941 sectors).

“Other relevant indicators in which Mexico City stands out are the use of mobile banking (15,867 mobile banking contracts per 10,000 adults) and air cargo (63,000 kilograms per 1,000 people).

It should be noted that Mexico City has been the most competitive entity in the country for 20 consecutive years of ICE.
