Durham Teen Charged After Pellet Gun Targeted At Carleton University Students – Ottawa Police | The Canadian News

An 18-year-old is facing charges after a pellet gun was aimed at Carleton University students in an overnight incident over the weekend.

Ottawa police said Monday they received a security call from the Carleton campus at 2 a.m. Saturday.

University security officials told police they were investigating an incident in which a person pointed a firearm at students.

Police attended the scene and arrested a teenager, recovering a firearm that turned out to be a pellet pistol. Officers also determined that his driver’s license was fraudulent.

The Ottawa Police Service said it has seen an increase this year in replicas, imitations and other “authentic looking” firearms being displayed in public or used in crime.

“We take these incidents seriously as they are a threat to public safety and as such criminal charges will be brought against individuals who engage in such conduct,” police said in a statement.

An 18-year-old from Durham now faces charges of pointing a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon and illegal possession of a forged document.

The suspect was released with a compromise.
