Durham police officer charged after seizing prohibited weapons, other "devices"

A Durham police officer is facing charges of importing and possessing restricted weapons following a search of his home in Oshawa.

The officer was off duty when he was arrested on Feb. 1 by members of the Professional Standards Unit, Durham police said Thursday. 3 Feb. The investigation led to the seizure of three banned guns and “multiple prohibited devices.”

The charges stem from a joint investigation by Durham police and the provincial arms enforcement unit. Police did not provide details about weapons or prohibited devices seized.

Kenneth Boone, 45, of Oshawa, is facing 13 firearm-related charges, including the importation and possession of a restricted or prohibited device and the careless storage of a firearm.

Boone has been an officer at Durham since 2003 and was most recently assigned to the traffic services branch. He will be assigned to administrative duties while awaiting the outcome of his charges, police said.
