Dodgers, faced with new difficulties

Remember well the version of the Dodgers that could not revalidate the title this 2021, after losing to the Braves in the National League Championship Series. Los Angeles could not spin two crowns and, thus, the New York Yankees are still the last team to achieve the streak and did it three times from 1998 to 2001.

“We didn’t meet our goal, but I give the Braves credit that they outplayed us, plain and simple,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Saturday as the series concluded 4-2.

The loss of the Angelenos was the end of a great regular season in which they obtained 106 wins, then beat the San Francisco Giants for the National League Division Series.

In Los Angeles, a dismantling could occur, as 19 players will go to free agency and the team will have to decide whether to rehire them or let them go. The list includes names like: Max Scherzer, Albert Pujols, Corey Seager, Kenley Jansen, Chris Taylor, and Clayton Kershaw. The profiles are very attractive to the market, such as pitcher Kershaw, who debuted with the Dodgers in 2008 and has made the All-Star Game eight times, won three Cy Young Awards and pitched a no-hitter and a World Series ring.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I loved every minute of being a Dodger. I have no idea what’s going to happen this offseason. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to play for the Dodgers,” Chris Taylor said of his upcoming free agency.

Taylor has been a mainstay for the Dodgers since he joined the team and became a rising star in 2017. He made his first All-Star appearance of his career this season, continued to play anywhere on the field and contributed in a series of great moments until October.

“He’s a glue guy and an All-Star. Even when he’s not swinging the bat the way he’s capable, he still finds a way to help you win, “manager Dave Roberts said.

Those are just two examples of how the Dodgers have several key contributors slated to go out in the winter market.

“In the six years I’ve been here, it’s been a core group of guys that could be delivered this winter. I’m not looking forward to it. I wish we had won another with this group,” Roberts added.
