Data centers in Querétaro will encourage new economic niches: Sedesu

Querétaro, Qro. In the center of the country, Queretaro it is forged as a core point for the installation of data centers. The Secretariat for Sustainable Development (Sedesu) is aware of 15 projects of this type, among those confirmed and those in the portfolio as investment intentions.

The attraction of projects to establish data centers encourages the generation of new productive slopes in the state, because this type of investment demands specialized services for its installation, maintenance and operation, said the Secretary of Sustainable Development (Sedesu), Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero.

The arrival of a data center gives rise to the emergence of industries necessary for both the construction and operational processes.

“Data centers are not only going to inject technical and educational knowledge or skills, but the great benefit of data centers is the creation of new industries: such as the industry of installation and maintenance of facilities, cabling, security, many new small industries that are being generated around data centers ”, he explained.

The specialization also includes expert personnel in programming, network maintenance, electrical installations, among other branches. The state secretary is confident that the state has the capacity to meet the staffing needs of these projects.

“They do require specialized labor with knowledge in programming, computing, installations, and network maintenance, but they also require electrical installations, in terms of operation; But everything that involves the installation and maintenance of data centers is what adds great value, if we consider that the investment of iron elements -such as construction, facilities-, and the equipment of the data center that represents up to two times plus the value of the construction, it is a very significant investment ”, he explained.

Some of the aspects that motivate the attraction of these investments, he listed, are the location of the state in the center of the country, conditions of connectivity, infrastructure and human resources.

It is estimated that for every dollar invested in data center infrastructure, two dollars are invested in equipment. The establishment of a data center, he added, generates a high potential to attract not only direct but indirect suppliers.

It is not only the direct employment that it generates, because we have seen it in Virginia which is a world reference model, the data center industry what has brought is the economic spillover through the indirect economy that has been generated, with an industry parallel indirect services that do not go directly to the workforce ”, he highlighted.

Among the recent installations, he mentioned that there is Cisco, which at the end of November announced that it inaugurated its new data center Cisco Umbrella that supplies its clients in Mexico, Central America and South America; it is a cloud-native security service accessible anytime, anywhere.

The facilities are a co-location of Equinix in the city of Querétaro, an ideal location for Umbrella’s cybersecurity data center, due to its centralized location and proximity to Mexico City, the company explains.
